The Non-Resident Importer
(NRI) Program
Our experienced Customs Brokers & Consultants can guide foreign businesses and importers through the NRI Program in order to take advantage of streamlined trade processes with Canada and reduced costs.
The Non-Resident Importer Program
A Non-Resident Importer (NRI) is a business based outside of Canada, who does not have a physical presence in Canada, but imports (or is looking to import) goods into Canada as the Importer of Record.
The Non-Resident Importer (NRI) Program is an initiative of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) that allows international exporters to sell products to Canadian customers directly on a delivered-price basis, without the need for a physical presence in Canada while receiving the same advantages as Canadian importers.
Registering as an NRI offers many benefits, including the following:
- Better control over your supply chain
- Reduced supply chain expenses
- An increased ability to compete in the Canadian marketplace
- Opportunities to provide better service to Canadian customers
For your convenience, we have written a comprehensive article and downloadable reference guide dedicated to helping you take advantage of Canada’s NRI Program

Non-Resident Importer Record-Keeping Service
At a minimum, Canada Customs dictates that NRIs are required to keep all records (documents) relating to Canadian import transactions for a period of six years (meaning six years plus the current year) following the importation of the commercial goods. PF Collins offers this service to digitally record-keep your documents in a well-organized and easily accessible manner in the event of an audit.
