As of Wednesday April 19th, 2023, Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) workers are on strike across Canada. While negotiations between the Canadian Federal Government and the PSAC union continue, you may experience some delays in services, including:

Employment & Social Development Canada – Temporary Foreign Worker Program:

During the current labor disruption, processing activities are focused on employer applications in the primary agriculture, food processing, trucking, and health-related sectors. However, applications for all sectors could experience delays in receiving decisions on their requests depending on the duration of the disruption.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

Most IRCC services have been impacted and you should expect delays.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)

It is expected that CBSA services to travelers and businesses will be maintained. While uniformed staff will not be affected, CBSA administrative staff are on strike. Due to this, clearance of cargo at all Canadian land border crossings could be impacted. Importers, exporters, and customs brokers should expect potential delays.

Transport Canada

It has been reported that Transport Canada essential services will be maintained. However, you can expect delays with services such as issuance of licenses, certificates, and registrations due to a significantly reduced workforce.

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

Certain services, including the Business Enquiries Line, will be unavailable. Businesses are encouraged to use CRA’s online services (My Business Account or My Account for Individuals) to manage the tax affairs of their organization.

PF Collins continues to work diligently on behalf of its clients and regularly contacting these various government departments. We will continue to advise on potential delays and provide updates as soon as additional information is obtained.
